Optimism
Today I want to discuss what I see as the difference between successful automotive professionals and unsuccessful automotive professionals. First, some definitions, successful automotive professionals are those that usually stay with one dealership for a long period of time, have many repeat customers and are generally well liked. Unsuccessful automotive professionals are those that seem to change dealerships often, are always telling people that they are only in the automobile business until something "better" comes along. Now, most people do not fit either category, but would like to be in the first one. Well, I think the difference between these two groups is Optimism. From what I have seen, people who are optimistic (glass half full) are usually the more successful people in life. Now, I know you are saying, well they are optimistic because they are successful. I disagree. In my research I found that people are optimistic first and then become successful. One way to know this is that even when they are having a bad month successful automotive professionals will try and put a positive spin on things. There optimism becomes contagious and people want to be around them. No one wants to be around pessimists, especially customers. Now, I know it is not easy being optimistic. However, if you really want to be successful you should try and become more optimistic. Even in these trying times you will be more successful if you look at the glass as half full. Believe me I know things are not easy out there. I am launching a new automotive business in the middle of a slow down, so I know. However, success starts with optimism. Optimism starts with a positive attitude. Do an attitude check everyday and do those things that can improve your attitude. This is different for everyone; some people like to listen to music in the morning, some people need to workout, whatever it is, do it. Giving yourself a positive attitude is the first step in becoming more optimistic. Next, stop hanging around with negative people and start spending more time with other optimists. Finally, improve your skills. When you are confident in your abilities you will become more optimistic. Review the Test Drive videos on this website to find some helpful ideas. Then continue to improve your selling skills. There is no need to spend thousands of dollars a month doing this. Wright Auto Pro can aasist you in improving your skills for as little as $45 per month or $375 for your entire dealership. So, start doing those thing that will make you more optimistic and become more successful as well. Until next time, good selling.
